I used to watch all these films, with my Mother in the 50s/60s, we seem to live in such sad times now.

How the hell they did it I will never figure out. I have been in a Lancaster, not I must add flown in one, which I would love. The skin of the thing isn't exactly tin foil but it isn't going to stop any kind of ordinance. The only way the pilot and flight engineer could get out was to climb over the wing spar which is difficult when on the ground never mind when falling out of the sky on fire. Imagine going through that time after time. Amazing people and I thank them for their service and my freedom ❤

My father in law survived 2 tours in Lancaster's and went on to be a commercial pilot after the war, retiring on 707s. He was always happy to talk about the post war flying, but his WWll memories stayed with him until he went to the grave some years later, after migrating to Aus in 1985. An extraordinary life.

My uncle flew 3 tours in B 25s. He was the pilot and considered very lucky. I asked him what type of plane he flew. He said a two engine bomber, if I flew a four engine I would not be sitting here! He was only 19 at the time. Remarkable group of people!

I grew up in the '50s and '60s and I was fascinated with sci-fi by authors like Ray Bradbury and A.B. Dick. But Arthur C. Clarke combined factual knowledge with the future and wove his stories around ordinary life. How are regular people going to react to things like AI and robotics, for instance? Since the human and probably alien life span is so short, I think our first contact with aliens will be our AI robot meeting their AI robot. But Clarke was a real genius imo. Also, a spiritually enlightened man. I saw a vid of him speaking about, "fractal geometry," the other day. Watch it here on YT if you want to get your mind blown.😅

Bomber Command's loss rate was a staggering 44.4%......the highest of any Allied formation, bar none and every aircrew member a volunteer; no pressed men. Only Nazi U-boat crews had a higher % loss loss rate.

Gielgud - by a mile better than Olivier (although comparisons are always silly). Olivier had the advantage of good looks, filmmaking and celebrity status. But as far as acting is concerned - and working from within - no one could match Gielgud! My Shakespeare teacher at drama school was in doubt, either!

What an amazing and very inspiring film. These brave and courageous young men who went up into the night sky and did their assigned jobs without complaining or groaning... I always try to imagine a formation of a hundred or so Avro Lancaster's rumbling along with their alert crews ready for the dreaded night fighters... In the distance the pilot and co pilot can see the target...their anxiety raises slightly but they are ready...all good honest brave young men who are in the Lancaster because they want a better world...free of an evil dictator who is attempting to take over Europe.... Can't help but imagine what these men would have done with their lives had WW2 not happened?? What would these young men have done had they not been killed during a mission? Would they have invented something to help humanity or the world?? Sadly we will never know... These young men and the young men who were killed are forever known as the Greatest Generation To Have Ever Walked The Earth!! 🙏🇬🇧❤💙 God Bless Them All!! They will never ever be forgotten!!

Be thankful dfor the life you've led... No Fascist UK govt.... No nazi death camps in the Cotswolds, Pennines and Scottish Highlands.... You've enjoyed a normal working life, as opposed to being deported to the reich to be slaved to death in a nazi armaments factory. It's only in the last 40 years that corporate globalism is trying to reintroduce all of that.
